Our Natural Approach to Fertilization and Pest Management
At Bilva Farms, we've consciously chosen to nourish our soil and crops using only organic fertilizers and natural pesticides — all prepared right here on our farm.
Our primary fertilizers are Jeevamruta (जीवामृत / ಜೀವಾಮೃತ) and Gokrupamruta (गोकृपामृतम् / ಗೋಕೃಪಾಮೃತ). Every week, we freshly prepare about 1,300 liters of Jeevamruta and 1,000 liters of Gokrupamruta, which are distributed directly to each plant through our drip irrigation system.

These traditional formulations do much more than feed the crops — they help regenerate soil fertility and enhance its carbon content, ensuring that our ecosystem thrives season after season.
Twice a year, we also enrich the soil with natural fertilizers such as vermi compost, cow and goat manure, blended with neem cake, pongamia cake, and fish bone meal. This mix is further fortified with naturally available microbial fertilizers like Trichoderma viride, Azotobacter, and Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) — all of which promote stronger root growth, better nutrient absorption, healthier soil, and improved disease resistance.
Every six months, we spray our plants with fish oil, a potent natural growth promoter rich in potassium. This is prepared on our farm using a traditional fermentation process — fresh, rejected river fish from the Kapila are chopped, mixed with cow urine, and fermented for six weeks. The resulting thick liquid is then diluted in a 1:100 ratio and sprayed on the plants, giving them a natural growth boost.
Natural and Bio-Pesticides
For pest management, we rely exclusively on natural methods. Neem oil (10,000 ppm) is our go-to shield against harmful insects and pests. Across the farm, we've installed multiple insect traps to lure pests away from the crop zones, along with sacrificial plants that attract caterpillars and other insects — helping protect our main fruit trees.
We also prepare Dasha Parni (ದಶಪರ್ಣಿ) — a traditional concoction made from ten different types of leaves found on our farm, soaked in cow urine for six weeks. Once ready, we dilute 1 liter of Dasha Parni in 10 liters of water and spray it every two weeks. This natural solution not only keeps insect activity in check but also strengthens the plants' natural resilience.
Our methods are rooted in the belief that when the soil is alive, the farm is too. Every element we prepare — from Jeevamruta to Dasha Parni — is part of a living circle of care between the earth, the animals, and us.
